CANON SYNOPSIS:
Jushiro Ukitake is the Captain of the 13th Court Guard Division of the Gotei 13, the central military organization of the Shinigami. He earned his seat immediately after graduation from the Shinigami Academy and is considered one of the greatest warriors of any Shinigami generation, young or old. However, Jushirou contracted an illness modeled after Tuberculosis at a young age, and therefore is exceptionally limited in what he is able to do.

This never damaged his image, though. He is respected by many, especially his subordinates. Many admire him for his honesty, kindness, and dedication to honor above all things. Therefore, even if he is not an active or fighting Captain, he still revered amongst the captains of the Gotei 13.

Jushirou is the eldest son of the low-class aristocratic Ukitake clan, though it is suggested he is also the Patriarch of the clan given he supports the entire family. He is also one of the oldest Captains in the current Gotei 13 along with Shunsui Koryaku, clocking in at over 2000 years old. The only other captains older than them are General Yamamoto and their close friend and 4th Division Captain Retsu Unohana, whom is only barely older.

Jushirou often relegated his Captain duties to his Vice-Captain Kaien Shiba given his illness. However, events involving a Hollow that could possess Shinigami led to Kaien's death, from which the 13th Division never fully recovered. The Vice-Captain spot, to this day, has not been filled. Ukitake still relegates his duties while sick, now to the Co-3rd Seats Kiyone Kotetsu and Sentaro Kotsubaki, whom often squabble over whom serves Ukitake better.

Jushirou treats his subordinates more like family than soldiers. He has a definite fatherly presence towards them, especially to his 3rd Seats and main character Rukia Kuchiki, whom is an unseated member of his division. This often leads to the 13th Division being viewed more as a family, especially given their small size in comparison to other divisions, having only 200 under its command.

A humorous part of Jushirou's character is his habit of giving gifts to his friends and fellow Shinigami. Particularly to 10th Division Captain Toshirou Hitsugaya. His premise for doing so being that they are both "Shirou-chans", meaning their familiar names share the same character in the second syllable. His favorite gifts to give include candy...once again especially to Toshirou.

ONORATA-VERSE BACKGROUND:
Jushirou Ukitake was born in Sapporo in Hokkaido to the Ukitake clan of sword masters, practitioners of the Sogyo Ryu style of kenjitsu that branched from Musashi's Niten Ryu centuries ago. The martial art consisted of using strange, pike like swords in unison. Jushirou, himself, was the youngest member of the clan to ever achieve the Dan rank within the style. He was on his way to becoming patriarch of the entire school when he contracted a mysterious disease. The doctors claimed it was Tuberculosis at first, but no treatments could eliminate the condition. His hair, also, mysteriously turned white within three days of having it...

Well, being the superstitious people the Ukitake clan were, they took this as a sign of him being cursed by demons. They stripped him of his rank and exiled him, forcing to leave not just Sapporo or Hokkaido, but Japan itself. Jushirou was rebellious at first, hiding himself in an Ainu encampment in the northernmost corner of Hokkaido.

In that time Jushirou learned the ancient arts of Ainu medicinal teas as well as their meditation techniques. These, up to this point, were the only things that Jushirou had known in his life that could ease the constant pain and coughing his illness caused. As such, he was finally able to pick up the sword again...

However, Jushirou's unusual appearance and sickness, the Ukitake clan quickly found him. The Ainu refused to surrender him, however, and fought against the government-aided swordsmen of the Ukitake clan. Jushirou put an end to it all, disarming all of the attacking clansmen with the clans own heirloom, the Sogyo no Kotowari. It was in this battle, though that he was noticed by the detective that aided the clan in tracking him down in the first place...

This was when Jushirou Ukitake met Shunsui Kyoraku. After the conflict within Jushirou's clan was resolved, the two became quick friends. Shunsui himself was a practitioner of the original Niten Ryu school that Jushirou's clan had branched from, and thus the two bonded over their swordsmanship, amongst other things. For years, they supported each other working law enforcement throughout Japan. Jushirou found his leadership and fighting skills transferred naturally to law enforcement. They both received great acclaim for their work and became very big names in Japan's NPA (National Police Agency), rising to the ranks of captains within the NPA.

The Japanese government had developed a policy in this time of outsourcing NPA agents to work in other countries. One such nation was Italy, whom had fallen almost completely under the crippling grip of a large scale crime war. The Antimafia Commision contacted the NPA to prepare one of their best agents for an immediate transfer into their program. Jushirou Ukitake was the agent chosen in the end...ending the seven year long partnership the two men had. Jushirou gave his friend a tearful farewell, packed his bags, and headed to Italy.

For ten years Jushirou resided in Reggio Calabria, posing as an owner of an Herbal Tea and Medicine shop while he worked for the AMC. Given the dangerous level of escalation the mafia battle had taken, Jushirou willingly volunteered himself to be given genetically enhanced abilities in order to fight more fairly with the equally super-powered criminals that inhabited the city. Jushirou was given two unique powers that tied in with the internal theories of the Sogyo Ryu sword style. The Balance of the Storm, the Truth of Pisces, was the ability to wield both lightning and rain in harmony. In Jushirou, these powers manifest as the ability to summon electrical currents from his own energy as well as manipulate water vapor in the air to form water. This has earned him the nickname "Tempesta Bianca" amongst his coworkers.

Appearance: Jushirou is a tall and lean man, who often appears sickly. He has long white hair that he will either wear down or in a ponytail depending on his mood that day. He tends to dress himself in traditional Japanese style clothing, though it's more than often just a simple pair of red hakama and a kimono of a darker, more crimson shade. He has a bright red haori he wears that bears designs of Summer Snowflake flowers on it, but this is only in colder weather.

His hair, while white, is obviously not his natural color due to the coloring of his eyebrows, which are dark black. He also hides a lot of strength in spite of his sickly appearance, given he was at one point one of the most feared swordsmen in all of Vohemar or Ivona

Personality: Jushirou is a complicated man. He has extraordinary kindness and a deep sense of pride and honor. What makes this complicates is that he is, essentially, a pirate who steals from others. This is because his sense of honor extends beyond the law and its bounds. He will always choose the path of honor above all others, even if it may not be the wisest choice. This has led some to question him and his manner of doing things, however it has won him just as many loyal friends who would fight alongside him to the bitter end should it come to this.

His kindness and habit of treating crew less like workers and more like family also lend well to his natural leadership skills. There was a time when he would have become captain of his own ship in the Ivona navy, but that is a story for the other section of this app.

Abilities/Weapons: Jushirou is an incredibly talented swordsman, perhaps one of the greatest of all time. His skill is trained by sword legend Yamamoto, and he has come to be respected for that skill in both nations regardless of where his loyalties might lie. He wields a katana, but under pressure he carries a second katana and is able to fight with both against large groups. Unlike most two-sword styles, Ukitake's does not actually implement a daisho, but rather two full sized katana, true to his ambidextrous nature.

There is a secret, however, to his weapons. Thanks to brilliance in engineering, his katana actually have a second "form". When he channels lightning energy into them, the manastones located in their hilts activate the transformation from two katana to the amazing Sogyo no Kotowari, aka the "Truth of Pisces". A cord decorated in seals connects the pommels of the swords and the blades themself spring out a barb-prong (similar to a fishing pike) from the middle of the blade (via mechanical engineering). He uses the command "Waves rise now and become my shield. Lighting strike now and become my blade" to signal Sogyo no Kotowari's activation.

Jushirou also has some magical capabilities as well that he has never been able to quite explain. He has manipulation over the elements of Lightning and Water, which earned him his nickname "The White Storm" in some circles.

Weaknesses: Jushirou's sickly appearance is actually thanks to the fact that he literally IS sick with tuberculosis. The consumption comes and goes, but he literally cannot fight on the same level as his youth. The only thing keeping him alive is a supplement of medicinal teas and salves that fight off the bacteria, but can never fully cure it. Due to his illness, he often relegates daily duties to his next in command. He makes no secret about his illness, and his ability to lead in spite of it has earned him a great amount of respect.

History: Jushirou Ukitake is the eldest son of the Noble House of Ukitake in Bellcius. His family had always been generals, admirals, and other high ranking military officials for generations, and the same was expected of Jushirou. Jushirou was trained since the age of 10 in the art of the sword and military tactics by the brilliant former admiral, Yamamoto-Genryūsai Shigekuni. At age 19, he was thrust into Belarus Academy and rose to the top of his class. He was a charismatic young man, and both his peers and instructors saw him as the next great leader in the Ivora Navy...however...

Jushirou fell ill shortly after his graduation. His once raven hair turned white within three days and the consumption began to slowly devour him from within. The Ukitake family virtually abandoned him under the assumption that he would die before becoming a high ranking officer. The one person that was willing to save him rather than simply let him die was a woman he had met during his time as a student. She was a young medical officer named Retsu Unohana, and she developed the means that keep him alive to this day. However, given the Ivona Government's willingness to simply abandon him given his sickness, Jushirou began to question his place in the world. The land he once thought honorable was showing its corruption at all the seams and Jushirou could no longer simply hide his eyes and ignore it.

He brought his case before Parliament, but his own father called him a traitor and had him thrown out of the chamber. Jushirou Ukitake was then exiled, cast away from the world he had grown up in. He crossed the Badlands on his own and ended up in Vohemar. He took up a new name, Sogyo, and brought himself before the captain of the 4423 with one statement...

"I want to find the honor in this world..."
