Ah, so that's the form Hyorinmaru takes, eh? Impressive!

I must say I'm rather proud that someone of his age can wield one of these so well. Though the panic is all rather amusing.

Even if you DID fire on Hyorinmaru's form, it wouldn't do you any good, by the way. So best to listen to Mister Kambei and leave it be.

Not just any sort of sorcery, my friend. Like my Sogyo no Kotowari, Hyorinmaru is a special sort of magical blade that contains within it a "spirit".

The known term is "Zanpaktou", though the original smiths of these blades are long forgotten. There are a small handful of smiths today that can work on them, but for the most part the very knowledge of their existence is practically moot. My teacher and closest two friends back home had them as well.

I was able to detect that Toshirou had one the moment I met him in person, and asked of it its name...though I believe Toshirou is unaware of my skill with them.

So this is his 'Zanpaktou'? Here I thought Toshirou was merely using mana crystals to create the ice I seen him make from his fingertips a few days ago.

I see. Much like the legends told to me in my youth, only a select few could ever master such divinity...

Or perhaps, only a select few were born with such power lurking within their souls.

I have often theorized that your second assumption is correct...even before Sogyo no Kotowari has come into my hands, I have had an...unnatural talent. Even without the aide of the crystals. I suspect Toshirou is the same.

Sogyo no Kotowari has similar power, yes, though each Zanpaktou is unique.

I would never dream of calling upon Sogyo no Kotowari's powers outside of a dire situation. I would never abuse their power in such a way.
